On the 16th May, St Michael's Church in Brunswick Sreet New Farm hosted a Sue Wighton concert, with proceeds going to the 139 Club. This money will support the homeless and marginalised people in our community.
Sue sings wonderfully well, and it was great to sit back and listen to her and her two musicians, Wade Gregory and Wayne Jennings. Two hours listening to a wide range of folk, blues, jazz genres that must have pleased the ear of everyone at the concert. At some stages, I thought I was listening to Joan Baez. Wonderfully talented people - not imported, but Australian - wow! We would like to thank all of the people concerned for their generosity and time. |

Earlier this year, Mental Health Council of Australia kindly supported the 139 Club Inc's Edible Garden project, with a very generous grant. The first stage of this project has now concluded with an extremely successfully result. I would like to congratulate all the participants who completed their Certificate 1 in Horticulture. This course has given the participants skills and a basic knowledge of landscaping and gardening . This will enable those keen to pursue employment in this field a qualification.
Another valuable dimension has been the opportunity for further social interaction with other clients and staff of the 139 Club, as well as the personal achievement that each person has been able to celebrate at the conclusion of the course. Needless to say, this goes along way in developing one’s self esteem. |
