People experiencing homelessness engage in computer classes at the 139 Club.
The 139 Club Inc and Red Cross are working together to up skill people in computer literacy who are experiencing homelessness, disabilities and other marginalised groups within the Inner City and Inner Northern suburbs of Brisbane. The first group commenced on Monday the 10th of August 2009 and is a basic introduction to computers. From this first course we are intending to offer an intermediate and then an advanced course.  A Red Cross trainer Krystn Dawson will be traveling to the 139 Club Inc to outreach support to people who access the daily service of the 139 Club Inc.

Computer

People who experience homelessness, disabilities, mental health or other living stresses find it hard, if not impossible to travel to places to access such educational services. This is why the 139 Club Inc and Red Cross will work together to bring these services to the people. The vision for this experience is to give people computer skills to aid them in job hunting, and access to communication with family and friends.

ART CLASSES

Our first art workshop commenced on Monday the 3rd of August.
We have been given a very generous donation by a wonderful community minded entrepentuer and business women to start art workshops for people experiences homelessness.

The 139 Club Inc has engaged the skills of an accomplished artist by the name of Louise Lawrence. Louise has produced and sold many art pieces across Australia and has had numerous solo and joint exhibitions. Louise has a passion for supporting, encouraging and educating people who would not usually get the opportunity to investigate their arty side. There are up to 12 people in the art group from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures with many interesting stories to tell.  These people all have varying levels of art skills and knowledge and will produce some magnificent are pieces.

The vision for these workshops is to create art that will be sold at auction in late November with a percentage of the proceeds going to both the participants involved in the workshops and the 139 Club Inc. It is expected that the 139 Club Inc will utilize the proceeds to refund similar type workshops and further celebrations in the future. Keep an eye on this space for the dates and times of the auction to purchase some original art pieces that will both be spectacular and support our community.

Purchase the art on postcard or products @ www.redbubble.com.au/people/139club
