The work of the 139 Club Inc shows that homelessness involves much more than ‘rooflessness’: people become homeless for a variety of reasons, which are complex, varied and at times hard to reconcile. Homelessness is usually the result of a culmination of long-standing issues related to poverty, family violence or breakdown, early school leaving, unemployment, social exclusion, mental illness, or drug and alcohol abuse. Our Welfare Services Team engages in excess of 2,200 episodes of homelessness support to clients annually. Services provided include: Housing assistance; Financial and budgeting assistance; Transport assistance; Food parcels, vouchers and meal tickets; Swags; Clothing, linen and toiletries; Information, advocacy and referral; Emotional support Parenting and Relationship support; and Outreach.
Our service model provides for both short term support and longer-term individual case management. Case Planning is provided to support an individual to make progress toward improving their lives permanently, at their own pace. The Welfare Services Team continues to work under increasing pressure as service users present with an ever-complex set of needs. Staff continue to support those who present to them in continuing states of crisis caused by a myriad of stressors. It is always busy within the Welfare Services Team at the 139 Club Inc, however the joy that we share as a community in watching an individual achieve better health and wellbeing, far outweigh any setbacks that may occur along the way. |
